Mercedes SarahUndergraduate Humanities Honors Fellow
Mercedes Sarah is a senior at Emory studying history and English & creative writing.
She is passionate about the role of storytelling in making history not only accessible but personal. Her honors thesis explores the Indigenous methodologies, the role of the archive, and oral history in the context of Indigenous California. Working with a family of the Miwok community in Tuolumne, California, Mercedes will collect oral histories and examine the family’s material collections. Her research aims to weave personal and institutional archives of Miwok history and culture to better capture the experiences of a historically marginalized community.
