Abby BrownUndergraduate Humanities Honors Fellow
Meet Abby Brown, an English and Creative Writing major and Global Development Studies minor at Emory.
An Atlanta native, she has always aimed to understand and give back to her community. Through her thesis project, currently titled "Out of Sight, Out of Mercy: Georgia’s Death Row Through the Eyes of Loved Ones," she intends to illuminate how Georgia's carceral system and implementation of the death penalty impact those who have loved ones behind bars. She will do so through a series of journalistic profiles centering on mothers, fathers, siblings, friends, and others with close connections to people either actively incarcerated on death row or formerly executed in Georgia. In collaboration with the other Fox Center fellows pursuing theses around the theme of Life/Story, she hopes to create an honest portrayal of these people's lives and illuminate the unjust nature of a system society has grown all too comfortable with.
