The Fox Center is delighted to announce that the inaugural event in our Life/Story theme year will be a keynote presentation by British actor and writer Paterson Joseph (Peep ShowWonka, HBO’s The Leftovers). This event, which is open to all and free to attend, will take place at Emory’s Schwartz Center for Performing Arts on September 18th at 7pm.

In “An Evening with Sancho...and Me?”, Paterson Joseph will bring to life his award-winning debut novel: The Secret Diaries of Charles Ignatius Sancho, named one of NPR’s Books We Love and winner of the Royal Society of Literature’s Christopher Bland prize.

Created for modern audiences, Joseph’s dynamic presentation will give voice to the inner life of the extraordinary Black British trailblazer Charles Ignatius Sancho. How did a man born on a slave ship go on to meet the king, write highly acclaimed music, become the first Black person to vote in Britain, and lead the fight to end slavery? And how did researching a man who lived centuries ago reshape Joseph’s understanding of his own place in British history?

Both deeply personal and bitingly humorous, “An Evening with Sancho...and Me?” will bring this important historical figure into view while exploring the many ways in which we render life as art.

This event is free and open to all but tickets are required. Free tickets are available through the Schwartz Center Box Office online, by phone at (404) 727-5050, or in person.
