Peter HabibGraduate Dissertation Completion Fellow

Peter Habib is a PhD Candidate in Emory’s Department of Anthropology.

Based on twelve months of fieldwork in Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley, primarily in the mountainside city of Zahle, his dissertation takes the shape of an ethnography exploring the social and political lives of water as it appears in natural sources, humanitarian provision, and domestic use. He is interested in water not only as a factor shaping governmental policy, imaginaries of the nation, and projections of the future, but also how water exceeds control and fosters life across difference in anticipated and unexpected ways. His research has been supported by the National Science Foundation, the Henry Luce Foundation, the Center for Arab American Philanthropy, and Emory’s Halle Institute for Global Research.
