Charlotte WeinsteinUndergraduate Humanities Honors Fellow

Charlotte Weinstein is a senior majoring in History with a concentration in Law, Economics, & Human Rights and minoring in Ethics.

Her honors thesis is titled “The Sounds of Dissent: Czechoslovak Punk Rock From Communism to Democracy” and is advised by Dr. Matthew Payne. This ethnographic research project seeks to understand the ideological shifts within the Czech and Slovak punk music scenes through political transition and the dissolution of Czechoslovakia in 1993. Charlotte received a Cuttino Scholarship to conduct archival research and record oral histories in Prague, Czechia from the Department of History. She has also been studying the Czech language for over a year to enhance her interaction with primary sources. This thesis ultimately lies at the intersection of her passions for communist histories, alternative music, and Slavic cultures.
